About the event
The documentary Perseverance: a documentary essay on Tomás Sánchez will be presented in a one-night-only screening on April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Cine Magaly. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the artist, director Juan Carlos Martín, and producer Gustavo Ángel.
Produced in Mexico, the film participated in the Morelia International Film Festival (2024), DocsMX (2025), and the Miami International Film Festival (2026). The documentary traces the life and work of Tomás Sánchez, from his training at the National School of Art in Cuba and his participation in the landmark exhibition “Volumen Uno,” to his international career and his establishment in Costa Rica, where he has lived for more than 25 years.
Through images of his work, interviews, and archival material, the film explores his creative process, the discipline that sustains his artistic practice, and his relationship with the landscape as a central axis of his work.
