About the event
Perseverance, a documentary Essay on Tomás Sánchez offers an in-depth portrait of one of Latin America’s most significant contemporary painters. Directed and produced in Mexico, the film traces Sánchez’s trajectory from his early training at the National School of Art in Cuba and his participation in the landmark exhibition “Volumen Uno,” to his international career and eventual establishment in Costa Rica.
Through interviews, archival material, and sustained observation of his studio practice, the documentary examines the discipline and inner rigor that define his artistic process. Landscape emerges not merely as subject matter, but as a space of meditation, exile, and spiritual inquiry.
Rather than constructing a conventional biographical narrative, the film unfolds as a reflective essay—an exploration of artistic endurance and the persistent search for clarity through painting.
